Unfortunately, hot summer days are usually followed by unpleasantly warm nights, which often make a relaxed sleep impossible. So that you can still get through the night well and easily, we have put together some helpful tips for you so that you can continue to enjoy the beautiful days well-rested!
The summer started this year with a lot of power and made us forget the cold season quickly. Can't you get enough of the warm rays of the sun on your face, the long afternoons in the park or the bathing fun at the lake? We feel the same way! However, not only do we soak up the sun, but also our own four walls store the summer heat. Restful sleep? This is therefore often out of the question for many people. So that you can continue to enjoy the beautiful summer well-rested and relaxed, we have collected some tips for a restful night's sleep.
Take advantage of the draughts in your home
In summer, draught is often the only way to cool down the rooms quickly in the evening. In addition, it makes sense to ventilate at night ? during the day only additional warm air would come in. So if you are not afraid of drafts, you can open opposite windows and sleep peacefully in a cool breeze. Also, "a fan opposite the open window can work wonders. An old trick from hot climates is hanging wet sheets in front of the open window or fan. A real treat in hot spells!
Cool bedmates ensure nightly relaxation
A hot water bottle on a summer night? Swap the hot for the cold. Put a hot water bottle filled with cold water in the freezer during the day. At night, it cools your feet, legs or wrists. If you wake up late at night with a thawed bedmate, just hold your wrists under cold water for a while.
Moisturising your neck and forehead with a washcloth also works wonders. Beware: a cold shower is not a good idea in the heat, as it stimulates the body to heat up ? and we sweat again. Rather take a lukewarm shower, gently dab with a towel or cuddle briefly in a bathrobe and then go to sleep.
Drink plenty of water
Admittedly, it is not particularly pleasant to wake up at night drenched in sweat, but sweating protects the body from overheating and is, therefore, an important body function. Through sweating, however, the body loses a lot of fluid, which we have to supply it again. We can therefore not say it often enough: drink, drink, drink! This keeps your body and head cooler, and you to sleep better. If you drink enough water during the day, a small glass is enough in the evening. With this tactic, you will at least save yourself the nightly flying visits to the bathroom.
Choose the right bed linen!
The right bed linen is the be-all and end-all for sleeping in the heat. Put the thick cuddly blanket away until autumn and sleep under a light summer blanket instead. When it gets really hot, a simple cotton sheet is enough. Bed linen made of this popular natural fibre offers the advantage that it feels pleasantly soft on the skin and absorbs sweat quickly due to its high absorbency.
This gives you pleasant sleeping comfort, especially on hot nights. In addition, you can replace the fluffy pillow with a spelt pillow during the summer season. If you put it briefly in the freezer before going to bed, it stores the coolness and ensures a pleasantly fresh sleeping climate.
What to wear
Sleep as nature intended or dress for the occasion? Some swear by sleeping naked. Others feel that the bed linen literally sticks to the skin unless they have pyjamas on. We say: each to their own! If you choose nightwear, we recommend loose-fitting clothing so that the skin can breathe.
Cooling satin, fine silk or light cotton are an excellent choice and pamper you at night with temperature and moisture regulating properties. In addition, the airy materials are breathable. And in an elegant negligee with a light dressing gown, you are guaranteed to cut a good figure at the sunny breakfast table!
We hope to help you cool off at night with our tips. But even if you roll sleeplessly from one side to the other one or the other ? keep calm and think about the beautiful hours of sunshine that await you in daylight. Maybe you will also find a shady place for the deck chair for a nap. Sleep tight!
